Build job-ready skills for customer service roles

This 6-day online course helps participants prepare for work by building practical skills in communication, teamwork, and workplace safety. It’s ideal for those starting out or looking to boost their confidence before entering customer-focused roles.

Learning outcomes

Throughout the course, learners will explore how to work well with others, communicate clearly with customers, and follow basic health and safety practices.

They’ll learn how to manage tasks in a team, respond to customer needs, and understand what’s expected in a professional workplace. The course also helps build confidence and prepares participants for future job opportunities.

On successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment, which can be added to their resume or used as credit toward further study.

What is this Career Starter Course?

This course helps participants build the skills employers look for – like working well in a team, communicating clearly, and staying safe at work.

It’s a chance to strengthen existing skills and learn new ones that make a real difference when applying for jobs. Even if someone has covered some of these areas before, the course offers fresh ways to improve and feel more confident in the workplace.

What units are included in the course?

This course includes three nationally recognised units from the Certificate III in Customer Engagement:

  • BSBPEF202 – Plan and apply time management
  • BSBOPS304 – Deliver and monitor a service to customers
  • BSBWHS311 – Assist with maintaining workplace safety

These units give participants a taste of what it’s like to work in customer service roles. They’ll learn how to manage their time, support customers in a professional way, and understand basic safety responsibilities at work.

Completing these units not only builds confidence – it also shows employers that participants are serious about developing real, job-ready skills.

Does this course guarantee a job?

No, the course doesn’t guarantee a job. However, it helps participants build real skills and earn a Statement of Attainment, which can strengthen their resume and improve their chances when applying for work.

Do participants need to attend all days?

Yes, it’s important to attend all six days of training, plus the induction and application day if required.

Each part of the course is designed to build key skills and knowledge, so missing a day means missing out on important content. Full participation helps ensure learners get the most out of the experience and are well prepared for future job opportunities.

How is the participant’s portfolio presented to employers?

We work closely with each participant to promote their portfolio through our network of employers. This process – known as reverse marketing – helps connect participants with job opportunities faster by highlighting their skills, training, and readiness to work.
